70th Anniversary of our Society

Lamorbey and Sidcup Local History Society was formed in 1952 as an off-shoot from a local history class that met at Lamorbey Park Adult Education Centre. Initially called the Local History Group, it was renamed ‘Society’ in 1956.

On 5 April we celebrated our 70th anniversary with 70 people (a coincidence!), including members and special guests. We enjoyed a buffet and drinks along with our special anniversary cake. On display were photographs and information on our latest projects.

At Sidcup Library from 20 May 2022 is a display of the society's projects, past, present and future.

To mark our 70th anniversary we have some commemorative items, including a poster and tea towel (featuring Sidcup Place) and a set of five postcards of Sidcup in the 1950s. These will be on sale in the library on 27 May and 4 June 10am-2pm.

All meetings are held in St Lawrence's Community Hall, Hamilton Road, Sidcup, starting at 7.15pm.
