These are some of the places in and
around Sidcup of historical interest.
Sidcup Place is situated in the park
which is named after it. In the park there are tennis courts, a pitch-and-putt
golf course, a putting green, a children's playground and some very attractive
gardens. The house itself is now a pub/restaurant with many of the original
features tastefully incorporated into the decor.
Manor House is opposite Sidcup Place
on the Green, near St John's Church. It is now the Public Register Office and is
an attractive venue for weddings.
Lamorbey Park is the original home of
the Lamorbey & Sidcup Local History Society. At the time the Society was founded it
was an Adult Education Centre. Now it is the campus of the Rose Bruford School
of Dramatic Arts. There is a good view of the house from the opposite side of
the lake in The Glade.
Frognal is one of the oldest
surviving buildings in Sidcup. It is next to Queen Mary's Hospital and is now an
Assisted Living Home. It is open to the public on London Open House Weekend in
September every year.
Five Arches Bridge was once the way
to church for the occupants of North Cray Place. This and its neighbour
Footscray Place are now unfortunately demolished, but the Foots Cray Meadows which are on
the site of these estates are a picturesque part of Sidcup.
