How to Find Us

The Lamorbey & Sidcup Local History Society was formed in 1952 as an off-shoot from a local history class that met at Lamorbey Park Adult Education Centre. Initially it was called the Local History Group, but was renamed "Society" in 1956. We shared Lamorbey Park with other Adult Education classes in the evening and during the day the Rose Bruford College used the premises. In time the College expanded so much that it took over the Lamorbey Park completely and we moved, along with the other classes, to Alma Road Centre. Until 2003 the Society continued to meet at the Adult Education venue, until a change in policy prompted us to find alternative accommodation. From September 2004 the Society has met fortnightly at St Lawrence's Church Hall, Main Road, Sidcup.

For many years membership was about 20, but in recent years has topped 100. All of our members live in Sidcup or the immediate surrounding area. Many have lived in Sidcup all their lives and have interesting tales to tell of the recent history of Sidcup; these are often featured in our Newsletter.

The Society logo, which features at the top of every page of this website, is a hunting horn taken from the arms of the Malcolm Family, one time residents of Lamorbey Park.

Members are encouraged (but not required) to pursue their own researches in matters of local interest and historical importance.

We are affiliated to The Kent History Federation, The Kent Archaeological Society and Bexley Civic Society.
